Hear the Jabiru on a CH Jabiru installation on the CH Not for now, though the "proof of concept" prototype has indicated that there is definitely a market for a light affordable twin. Sebastien, was the flight testing on the prototype ever completed? I mean, past what is on the Zenair site from your father's initial testing and performance figures encountered during that testing?
Keep the small twin on a back or better yet, front burner, Sebastien. It is such a nice concept and looks so darn sexy. I have pondered your design from time to time and envision a fuselage perched on that Gemini center section that incorporates the carry through structure, engines and main gear.
Outboard of the engine nacelles a pair of wings would give a decent wing area, I expect. It would most likely need a bigger rudder, maybe a fixed vertical fin with a traditional rudder. Three axis trim would be good, almost mandatory. Set it up to handle engines up to a pretty strong power output for flexibility of customer preference. Same for weight capability, make it a basic knock about plane but with structural options to build a heavier IFR cross country machine as well.
However, there is a lot of hostile terrain up here with almost no forced landing options. Rock art and sunset lookout at Ubirr was amazing. Sunset cruise at Yellow Water was a nature lover's dream. Nourlangie Rock art site was excellent. The Bowali visitors centre just outside Jabiru town was well done with helpful staff, a good interpretive centre and nice little bistro serving a good coffee. The restaurant at rhe Mercure Kakadu Cocodile was terrible.
However the Kakadu Lodge had a great little open air bistro restaurant by a rather splendid pool that served the best grilled Barra we had on our whole NT trip. Service was really quick and staff were great. This is the place to eat in Jabiru. From Jabiru I strongly recommend: We stayed at Kakadu lodge as well as Mercure Kakadu Crocodile, both were fantastic! Leave time to get out to Ubirr and see a few other things not so close. Plan to stay at Yellow Waters too ,if you want to do their cruises.
Not as cheap as some others, but apparently very good. We did Coroboree Billabong before we got to Kakadu and it was very light on for Crocs, but good for birds. Highlight by far was the one-hour fixed wing flight to see Jim Jim and Twin Falls and the overall area in the wet season.
Pick the afternoon flight if you want to see the sun directly on the falls, as they face southwest. There will be no sun on them on an 8 AM flight. Rock art at Nourlangie was specttaculat. No access to Ubirr rock art because we were in the wet season. Easy to locate, perhaps indicate more specifically how to turn into the hotel coming out from Jabiru exit for first time visitors ; convenient and near to shopping centre nearby.
